And a brief review of 2015.
2015 was amazing. I got the possibility to work with fantastic people, travelled the world with friends, and started a solid relationship with a great girl. I’m also in the best shape of my life, at just 79.5 kg (or 175 lbs) and 10% body fat, and started kick boxing.
The only issue with 2015 is that I optimized for money, and not so much for work-life balance, long term goals or learning. In fact, I prioritized money over a few things I’ve been meaning to do for more than 12 months now.
I’m not entirely sure that was a mistake. It’s something I needed to do. But that will change…
In 2016, I will optimize for Happiness.
But Happiness is a broad goal. And broad goals don’t work. Goals need to be specific, measurable, and time-bound.
For that, Happiness will be divided in 3 key areas – Health, Learning, and Income. Each area will have it’s own specific, measurable goal, a tracking plan with quantitative metrics, and a time stamp.
Health
Goal
In July 1st, 2016, I want to be at 82kg at 8% body fat, and an average of 7 hours of sleep per night.
Things to track
- hours of sleep (via Withings Activitié).
- weight.
- body fat.
- gym time (manual input).
Learning
Goal
By the end of August, I should learn how to build web products, and by the end of 2016, I should have at least 3 small projects live. Also, starting February 2016, I will read at least 4 books per month and record them.
Things to track
- books I read.
- projects live.
Income
Goal
Start 2 different online businesses I could either sell, or manage from a mobile device. Each business should generate $2,000/month in profits after month 6.
Things to track
- monthly income.
- business specific metrics.
I also have an ultimate goal for 2016 – to start a remote startup. But I believe that will organically develop from Learning and Income.
